Championship Central
ATHENS, Ohio- Ohio Wrestling looks to take its successful 2009-10 season to new heights this weekend as the team travels to the campus of Central Michigan University for the Mid-American Conference Championships. The Bobcats (12-5, 3-2 MAC) finished third in the regular-season conference standings, behind No. 6 Central Michigan and No. 19 Kent State. Ohio has been paced by a consistent group of seven wrestlers that have achieved 20 victories or more this season.
According to a March 2 release from the MAC office, the conference has been allocated 22 automatic bids for the 2010 NCAA tournament in Omaha, Nebraska. The MAC has been awarded four automatic bids at the 133-pound weight class and three each at 149, 184 and 197 pounds. Two automatic bids have been granted at 165, 174 and heavyweight, and one each at 125, 141 and 157 pounds.
Ohio leads the conference in all-time championships with 15. Central Michigan is currently in second (13) and Kent State is in third place with ten.
Sixteen wrestlers in the MAC are currently highlighted in the latest InterMat rankings. The weight classes and rankings are broken down below:
