ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University Wrestling team (11-5) placed seven individuals in the top 5 of the preliminary seeds for the 2013 Mid-American Conference Championship. The league announced the pre-seeds on Tuesday.

Redshirt freshman Cody Walters (Macedonia, Ohio) earned Ohio's highest pre-seed as he was ranked No. 2 at 174 pounds. Walters enters Sunday's championship with a mark of 32-2 and has claimed his last two bouts by fall. He is currently in the midst of a 12-match winning streak. Walters opened the year by claiming his first 19 bouts.

Junior Jeremy Johnson (Broadview Heights, Ohio) earned a No. 3 seed at heavyweight after he posted a 30-8 mark this season. The 2012 defeating MAC heavyweight champion enters the event on Sunday, having won 12 of his last 13 bouts.

Sophomore Andrew Romanchik (Independence, Ohio) at 157, redshirt freshman Spartak Chino (Wheaton, Ill.) at 157 and redshirt freshman Phil Wellington (Euclid, Ohio) at 197 each earned No. 4 pre-seeds.

Sophomores Harrison Hightower (Strongsville, Ohio) at 165 and Michael Duckworth (Liberty, Ind.) at 184 each earned No. 5 pre-seeds.

The pre-seeds were voted on by the conference's coaches and rank the top eight wrestlers in each weight class.

The 2013 MAC Wrestling Championship is set for Sunday, March 10 on the campus of the University at Buffalo at Alumni Arena. The event is set to begin at 10 a.m.
