ATHENS, Ohio - Three members from the Ohio University wrestling team will compete for All-America status on this weekend at the 2012 NCAA Championships in St. Louis, Mo.
Ohio's Nick Purdue, (174), Ryan Garringer (184) and Jeremy Johnson (285) all earned their way into the tournament through automatic qualifying spots by virtue of their performances at the Mid-American Conference Championships hosted by Ohio University. Purdue and Johnson both won their respective weight classes, while Garringer took third.
Purdue (19-8) will face off against Ohio State's Nick Heflin (23-8) in the first round, with the winner set to get the winner of the match between Pittsburgh's Ethan Headlee and Northwestern's Leroy Munster.
Garringer (17-13) drew first round bye and will meet the winner of the match between Matt Ryan from West Virginia and Jacob Swrtz from Boise State. Garringer wrestled Ryan earlier this year when the Mountaineers met at the Convocation Center back on Feb. 10. He lost the bout 7-1.
Johnson (30-5) will put his 10 bout winning streak on the line when he duals with Wisconsin's Cole Tobin (8-16).
The tournament will take place over three days, from Thursday, March 15-Saturday, March 17 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
