ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio wrestling team has signed high school state champions Justin Powell and Matt Reedy to National Letters of Intent, Ohio Wrestling Head Coach Joel Greenlee announced. The signings bring Ohio's 2007-08 recruiting class total to seven.

Powell (Youngstown, Ohio), a product of Boardman High School, competed at 215 pounds and will see time as a heavyweight with the Bobcats. He was the 2007 Ohio Division I State Champion at 215 pounds, earning a 1-0 win over Barberton's Adam Cogar in the finals. Powell posted a 43-2 record during his senior season and set a school record with 28 pins. He tallied a career record of 127-27 with 84 pins in his four years at Boardman.

Powell was a two-time All-Federal League First Team selection and also earned All-Eastern Ohio Wrestling League First Team honors twice. A three-year state qualifier, Powell took third place as a junior and first place as a senior. He was a two-year captain of the wrestling team and holds school records for wins in a career, pins in a career, wins in a season, and pins in a season. Powell lettered four times in wrestling and three times in football and was an All-Northeast Ohio Second Team selection in football.

Powell is the son of Kevin and Kathy Powell and has one brother, Jake, and three sisters, Erin, Dana and Carrie. He was born on August 31, 1988.

Reedy (Hiram, Ohio), a product of Ravenna High School, wrestled at 140 pounds in high school and was the Ohio Division II State Champion in 2007. He defeated Joe Newland of St. Paris Graham Local by a score of 8-2 in the 140-pound finals. Reedy went a perfect 51-0 as a senior and posted 168 career victories while at Ravenna.

Reedy was a four-time first team all-conference selection in high school and captained his team for three seasons. He led Ravenna to four straight league championships and a second place finish at the 2007 Ohio Wrestling Championship. Ravenna claimed the sectional and district championships during his senior season.

Reedy is the son of Steve and Nancy Reedy and has one sister, Monica. His father, Steve, was an All-American wrestler at Kent State as he took sixth place at 167 pounds in 1981 for the Golden Flashes. Reedy was born on May 25, 1988.

Powell and Reedy join five recruits signed to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period. The rest of the list includes Ohio natives Darrin Boing (Northfield Center, Ohio), Nick Purdue (Genoa, Ohio) and Andy Hartshorn (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and New York natives Erik Schuth (Brockport, N.Y.) and Michael Fennell (Commack, N.Y.).
