LAS VEGAS - Ohio's Jacob Ison qualified for the 2009 World Team Trials after placing sixth in the Greco-Roman division of the U.S. Senior Nationals at the Las Vegas Convention Center on Friday, April 10. Wrestling in the 84 kg/185 lb. bracket, Ison knocked off the No. 4 seed in the second round en route to placing in the top seven spots that make it to the World Team Trials.

Ison (Batavia, Ohio) defeated Troy Goodban by technical fall in the first round and followed that with an upset of Gabe Dretsch in three periods in the quarterfinals. He was then defeated by Aaron Sieracki in the semifinals and Walter Hoffman in the consolation semifinals by two close decisions. He faced Dretsch again in the fifth-place bout and was pinned in 1:17, earning him a sixth-place finish.

The redshirt junior is coming off a 10-3 season competing at 174 pounds that was hampered by injury much of the year. He owns a career record of 54-24 for the Bobcats.

The 2009 World Team Trials will be held May 30-31 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
