ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio University junior wrestler Jeremy Johnson was one of three men's freestyle wrestlers who were awarded Wild Cards by USA Wrestling on Wednesday to compete in the U.S. World Team Trials, set for June 21-22 in Stillwater, Okla.
Johnson (Broadview Heights, Ohio) earned the Wild Card selection along with Kyle Dake from Cornell and Jack Jensen from Army. Men's freestyle wrestling can be awarded up to five Wild Cards for the Trials, but only three have been approved at this point by USA Wrestling.
During the 2012-13 season, Johnson earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship for the third-consecutive season. He closed out the year by winning 12 of his final 13 regular season matches. Johnson finished the year with a 35-11 record to go along with 10 pins.
Johnson was equally impressive in the classroom as he was named to the Mid-American Conference and National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic teams after he posted a 3.3 gpa, majoring in Psychology.
