Ohio Wrestling Green and White Match Set For Sunday

Sophomore Cody Walters and Bobcats will open their season in intrasquad match.

ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University wrestling team opens its 2013-2014 campaign with an an intrasquad scrimmage on Sunday at noon in the Convocation Center. 

The Green and White match will be the only chance to see the Mid-American Conference favorites at home until Dec. 15 when the Bobcats host Appalachian State.

Ohio will feature five returning NCAA qualifiers in Cody Walters (Macedonia, Ohio), Jeremy Johnson (Broadview Heights, Ohio), Phil Wellington (Euclid, Ohio), KeVon Powell (Romeoville, Ill.) and Spartak Chino (Wheaton, Ill.).

Sophomore Walters, the defending MAC Freshman of the Year, was ranked by the coaches as the league's top 174-pounder. The 2012-2013 All-American finished eighth at the NCAA Championships.

Johnson, a senior heavyweight, and Wellington, a sophomore in the 197 weight class, were also tabbed as the top in their respective weight classes.

Head coach Joel Greenlee's 17th season with the Bobcats will officially begin at the Michigan State Open on Nov. 9 in East Lansing, Mich.
