ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio senior Shamus Eaton (Uniontown, Ohio) was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV First Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday. The selection is the first such honor of his career.

Eaton had his strongest cross country season in 2008, leading the team to a fifth-place finish in the Mid-American Conference and garnering second-team All-MAC and Academic All-MAC honors. The journalism major placed 21st at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional and narrowly missed qualifying for the NCAA Championship.

To qualify for the Academic All-District squad, a student-athlete must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests, have been enrolled at their institution for at least a year and carry a 3.30 cumulative GPA or better. The teams are then voted on and selected by members of CoSIDA.

Eaton's selection to the first team means he is eligible for Academic All-American accolades, which will be released on June 19.
