ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University men's and women's cross country teams will play host to its lone home meet of the season at the Ohio Invitational on Saturday. The women's race begins at 2:30 p.m., while the men will follow 45 minutes later at 3:15 p.m. on the Ohio University Golf Course.
The Bobcats enter this weekend's meet after both the men's and women's team competed in the 2012 Harry Groves Invitational in University Park, Pa. The women's squad finished fifth, while the men's team took seventh.
In the women's race, junior Juli Accurso (Casstown, Ohio) picked up right where she left off from a year ago as she won the 6-kilometer race, posting a time of 21:03 en route to earning MAC Runner of the Week award. Accurso posted an average pace of 5:51 to claim the race.
In the men's race, senior Tyler Ames (Cortland, Ohio) was the Bobcats' top finisher as he placed 28th in a time of 26:58.
The Bobcats will look to defend its 2011 Ohio Invitational crown from a year ago. In last year's meet, both the men's and women's teams placed five and six runners in the top 10, respectively.
During last year's race, senior Noah Howkins (Stow, Ohio) finished with an impressive time of 25:53.93. to win the 8-kilometer race, while fellow teammate Chase Robinson (Navarre, Ohio) wasn't too far behind finishing in second with a time of 25:58.95.
Juniors Allison Stillwell (Zanesville, Ohio) and Melissa Thompson (Westerville, Ohio) paced 'Cats in the women's race as both finished in the top five. Stillwell clocked a solid time of 22:41.96 to finish runner-up while Thompson took fourth with a 22:48.00 in the 5-kilometer race.
