ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University men's and women's cross country teams were honored Monday by the Mid-American Conference as senior Juli Accurso and sophomore Jarrod Genther both earned Runner of the Week honors.
Accurso (Casstown, Ohio) received the award after she paced the women's squad in a time of 21:05.00 to finish third in the six-kilometer race. Accurso's third-place finish helped the Bobcats' take runner-up honors at the Wake Forest Invitational. As a team, the Ohio women finished ahead of conference foes Miami and ACC schools Wake Forest and Clemson.
Genther (Canal Winchester, Ohio) picked up the league's weekly honor after he led the men's squad to a fourth-place finish at the Wake Forest Invitational. He finished the eight-kilometer event 11th in a time of 25:27.83.
This is the second time in three events both runners have led their respective teams.
Both groups return to action in a split-squad competition on Oct. 4. Half of each team will travel to Ceddarville, Ohio for the All-Ohio Championships, while the others will compete at the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind. Both women's races will begin at 2 p.m. while the men will run at 2:45 p.m.
