ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio University men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete in split-squad competitions on Friday. Half of each team will travel to South Bend, Ind. for the 58th annual Notre Dame Invitational. The other members will head to Cedarville, Ohio for the All-Ohio Championships.
At last year’s Notre Dame Invitational, Juli Accurso (Casstown, Ohio) took runner-up honors against some of the nation’s top collegiate talent, posting a time of 16:35. The Bobcat women competed in the Blue Race, which featured four nationally-ranked teams. In the team standings, Ohio finished the meet 14th overall. The men’s team completed the event in ninth place. Of 143 runners, Jarrod Genther (Canal Winchester, Ohio) placed 39th in a mark of 25:06.
It has been two years since either team took part in the All-Ohio Championships. As a sophomore, Juli Accurso finished in the top spot of 317 runners in a time of 17:55.38. The women’s squad took third out of 47 teams. On the men’s side, the Bobcats finished fourth out of 45 teams, while Noah Howkins (Stow, Ohio) placed 22nd of 310 runners.
At the Notre Dame Invitational, the men will run in the Gold Division, which begins at 2:45 p.m., while the women will take part in the Blue Division which kicks off at 4:15 p.m. This year’s event will feature 616 women runners and 594 runners on the men’s side.
At the All-Ohio Championships, the women’s race begins at 2 p.m. while the men’s will start at 2:45 p.m.
