Ohio Cross Country Concludes Competition at Pre-Nationals

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Ohio University men's and women's cross country teams took part in the 2012 NCAA Division 1 Pre-National Meet at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park Saturday morning.

The Bobcat women took 24th in the seeded race, while the men's team finished fifth in the unseeded race. Over 120 men's and women's teams took part in the event that will be the host site of the 2012 NCAA Championships.

Junior Juli Accurso (Casstown, Ohio) was the top Ohio finisher as she placed 13th. Accurso finished the 6-kilometer race in a time of 20:15.6. Fellow junior Melissa Thompson (Westerville, Ohio) was the next Ohio finisher as she came in 93rd, clocking a time of 21:31.

On the men's side, senior Tyler Ames (Cortland, Ohio) was the top Bobcat finisher as he clocked a time of 25:10.4. Freshmen Jarrod Genther (Canal Winchester, Ohio) and Wes Cochran (Warren, Ohio) also placed in the top 50 as they finished 41st and 45th, respectively.

Both men's and women's teams return to action on Oct. 27 as they head to the 2012 Mid-American Conference Championships in Buffalo, N.Y.
