ATHENS, OHIO – Mike Laster made sure to capitalize on his senior night.
The senior guard — who wasn't inserted into the Ohio starting lineup until this season — led the Bobcats to a 75-59 victory over Bowling Green on Tuesday night at The Convocation Center
Here's how it went down:
THE SKINNY: Ohio led for over 35 minutes of Tuesday's game, the Bobcats' largest lead of 20 points came with three minutes left in the first half when Teyvion Kirk hit a 3-pointer. At the half, the Bobcats led 39-27. Bowling Green cut Ohio's lead to 10 points with under six minutes to go in the game.
TURNING POINT: Ohio responded to the Falcons cutting into its lead by responding with a 14-4 run spurred by six points from Laster and five from Kirk. The run allowed senior walk-ons Sam Frayer and Antonio Bisutti to enter the game.
IMPACT PLAYER: Laster. After being a role player the last couple years, he's second on the team in points per game this season. Playing with a shoulder injury throughout the season, he continues to find ways to help his team win. On Wednesday, it was dishing out a career-high seven assists.
STARTLING STAT: 59 — points scored by Bowling Green. The Bobcats allowed 108 points in their last outing against Buffalo, the most points they've allowed since a quadruple-overtime game in 2010. Holding the Falcons to just 59 points is a good starting point to a possible run into March.
WHAT IT MEANS: The Bobcats have now won three of their last four games, improving their Mid-American Conference record to 6-11. Ohio is out of contention for hosting a first-round game next Monday but can finish as high as the No. 9 seed.
WHAT'S NEXT? Ohio returns to play Friday night in the season-finale against Miami at Millett Hall. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET and can be watched on ESPN3.
