CLEVELAND, Ohio– Ohio men's basketball redshirt sophomore forward Jason Carter (Johnstown, Ohio) was named the Mid-American Conference East Co-Player of the Week, the league announced today (Dec. 3).
Buffalo's Nick Perkins was also named the MAC East Co-Player of the week.
This is the first time that Carter, a Management and Strategic Leadership major, has earned the MAC Weekly honor.
Carter helped the Ohio men's basketball team (5-2) go 2-0 in a pair of home games at the Convocation Center last week, averaging a team-high 22.5 points per game. He shot 53.1 percent (17-of-32) from the floor and sank 69.2 percent (9-of-13) of his free throw attempts. Carter also averaged 9.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Carter finished with 20 points in Ohio's 89-65 victory over Iona last Tuesday (Nov. 27), going 8-of-15 from the field and sinking three of his four free throw attempts. He also grabbed six rebounds, dished out two assists and record a steal in 26 minutes of action. On Saturday (Dec.1) in a 101-84 win over longtime rival Marshall, Carter tied his career of 25 points by going 9-of-17 from the floor with a three-pointer and knocking down six of his nine free throw tries.
Carter and the Bobcats are back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 5 when Ohio heads to Cincinnati, Ohio to take on Xavier. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. inside the Cintas Center and will be shown on FS1.
