FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Ohio men's golf team combined to shoot a 315 (+27) on Saturday (April 28) in the third round of the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championships at Sycamore Hills Golf Club. The Bobcats are in ninth place with a total team score of 964 (+100). Ohio tallied round scores of 327 (+39) and 322 (+34) on the opening day of the league tournament on Friday (April 27).
It was another cold and windy day on Saturday with difficult scoring conditions. Temperatures were in the 40s with winds gusting around 20 miles per hour for much of the day.
Tournament host Ball State owns a 10-stroke lead on second-place Kent State through three years, with the Cardinals sporting a total team score of 890 (+26) following rounds of 302 (+14), 293 (+5) and 295 (+7). Ball State senior Michael VanDeventer continues to lead the field after firing a 77 (+2) in the third round to bring his total to 218 (+5). He compiled round scores of 70 (-2) and 71 (-1) on Friday.
Ohio saw freshman Zach Crawford (Vandalia, Ohio) move eight spots up the leaderboard on Saturday, shooting a third-round 75 (+3) to put himself in a tie for 31st with a 238 (+22). He followed up a first-round 84 (+12) with a 79 (+7) in the second on Friday.
Junior Ben Sattler (Liberty Township, Ohio) improved two spots, carding a 79 (+7) in the third round to place him in a three-way tie for 34th with a total score of 241 (+25). He tallied two rounds of 81 (+9) on Friday.
Redshirt senior Tom Nettles (McMurray, Pa.) climbed four spots on the leaderboard on Saturday and is now in 39th with a 243 (+27). He followed up rounds of 84 (+12) and 81 (+9) on Friday with a third-round 78 (+6) on Saturday.
Freshman Austin Dyson (Dublin, Ohio) is now tied for 43rd with a 246 (+30). He carded rounds of 78 (+6) and 81 (+9) on Friday, then shot an 87 (+15) in the third round on Saturday.
Redshirt junior David Yang (Huntersville, N.C.) is in 45th with a 252 (+36). He shot an 83 (+11) in the third round after rounds of 87 (+15) and 82 (+10) on Friday.
The fourth and final round of the 2018 MAC Championships will be held on Sunday (April 29). Because of a forecast for frost in the morning, action will now start at 9:30 a.m. ET rather than 8 a.m. ET as originally scheduled.
