CLEVELAND -- Redshirt senior Tom Nettles (McMurray, Pa.) and junior Ben Sattler (Liberty Township, Ohio) represented the Ohio men's golf team on the 2018 Men's Golf Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, as announced by the league office on Friday (June 8).
Nettles earned Academic All-MAC recognition for the first time in his career while Sattler earned a spot on the team for the second year in a row.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
A finance major with a 3.512 GPA, Nettles competed in eighth events and 23 rounds for the Bobcats in 2017-18. His top performance of the year came at the 2017 Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational (Sept. 11-12) at Guyan Country Club in Huntington W. Va., where he tied for 19th place after shooting rounds of 83 (+2) and 70 (-1) to tally a total score of 143 (+1).
A communication studies major with a 3.318 GPA, Sattler competed in nine events and 26 rounds in 2017-18. His top performance of the season came at the Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational (Oct. 9-10) at Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, W. VA., where he posted round scores of 75 (+3), 75 (+3) and 71 (-1) to tie for 27th place with a total score of 221 (+5).
