Butler Named All-Ohio Division I Male Cross Country Runner Freshman of the Year

ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio men's cross country redshirt freshman Griffin Butler was named NCAA Division I Male Freshman of the Year this week. Head coaches throughout the state conducted the voting after this 2017 cross country season.

Butler (Newark, Ohio) ended his debut season at the NCAA Great Lakes Regionals and posted a 10K time of 32:18.7 to place in the top-75 and as the fourth scoring Bobcat. Throughout the rest of the season, he posted his best time in the 8K at the Bluegrass Invitational clocking in at 24:43.8.

The rest of the All-Ohio award winners included Xavier's Madeline Briton as the DI Female Runner of the Year, Dayton's Chris Negri as the DI Male Runner of the Year, Kent State's Maddie Dunlap as the DI Female Freshman of the Year, and Dayton's coach Jason Ordway as the DI Men's and Women's Coaching Staff of the Year.
