ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio softball team was selected to finish second in the Mid-American Conference East Division in the coaches' preseason poll, the league announced today.
The Bobcats earned three of the possible 12 first-place votes. Kent State was selected to win the MAC East ahead of the Bobcats with six first-place votes. Behind Ohio was Miami, Akron, Bowling Green and then Buffalo.
Over in the West, Northern Illinois was selected as the division favorite with four first-place votes, followed by Ball State, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Toledo and Eastern Michigan.
Kent State was selected to win the 2018 MAC Tournament with three votes, while Ohio, NIU, Ball State and Akron all received two votes. Toledo also earned a vote to win this year's tournament.
The Bobcats open up the 2018 season on Feb. 16 when they head to the EMU Madeira Beach Invitational to take on Virginia and UNCG.
