ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio University women's basketball team (8-8, 3-2 MAC) fell to Ball State University (8-8, 3-2 MAC), 79-63, in a Mid-American Conference matchup at the Convocation Center on Saturday (Jan. 18).
The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Bobcats and marked Ohio's first home loss of the 2013-14 season.
The Cardinals started the game off red-hot, connecting on their first six shots from the floor to open up a 12-7 advantage in the opening five minutes. Ball State built their lead up to 30-13 with 9:29 remaining in the first half.
The `Cats sparked a 10-0 run late in the half to cut the Cardinals' lead to nine at 37-28, but Ball State answered with a 5-0 run of their own to enter intermission with a 42-28 advantage.
Ohio opened the second half on a 5-0 spurt by way of a pair of free throws by freshman guard Quiera Lampkins (Gahanna, Ohio) and a sophomore guard Kiyanna Black (Columbus, Ohio) trey to come within nine points at 42-33.
That's as close as the Bobcats got, though, as Ball State expanded its lead to a game-high 19 points at 11:34 when they led 61-42.
Black led the charge for the Green and White with 23 points to go along with three assists and two steals. Lampkins dished in 19 points, marking the third time she's posted 19 points or more in Ohio's last four games.
Ohio looks to return to its winning ways when it visits the University of Akron next Thursday (Jan. 23) in a MAC East Division clash. The opening tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
