AKRON, Ohio -- The Ohio University women's basketball team (8-9, 3-3 MAC) suffered an 80-56 loss to the University of Akron (9-8, 3-3 MAC) in a Mid-American Conference East Division contest on Thursday (Jan. 23) at James A. Rhodes Arena.
The contest marked Ohio's second straight MAC defeat.
Redshirt sophomore guard Kat Yelle (Geneva, Ill.) led the Bobcats with 14 points, marking the sixth time this season she has reached double figures in scoring and second time in the last three games.
Freshman guard Quiera Lampkins (Gahanna, Ohio) recorded her second career double-double with 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, which matched her career high. She reached double figures for the eighth time this season and the sixth time in the last eight games.
Three Zips reached double figures to lead the way for Akron. Senior guard Hanna Luburgh scored a game-high 28 points. Freshman guard Hannah Plybon added 16 points, while senior forward Rachel Tecca chipped in 13.
Akron set the tone early, scoring the first nine points of the contest. The Bobcats cut Akron’s advantage to six points four times, but that’s as close as the Zips allowed Ohio to get, taking a 36-21 lead into halftime.
The Zips never led by less than 17 points in the second half.
Ohio looks to return to its winning ways when it hosts the University of Toledo on Sunday (Jan. 26) at the Convocation Center. The opening tip is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
