Post-Game Quotes: Ohio vs. CMU

Feb. 3, 2007

Recap |  Box Score

Sophomore Rachel Frederick

On coming from behind 10 points to earn the victory:

I think it just shows a lot of character of the team. You find a way no matter what it takes, and that just shows a lot of character about any team. I think that shows a lot about us were on a three game winning streak, and we are about to play some really high teams in the MAC. Were just going to continue to try and find a way and keep on winning.

On the teams rebounding:

Coach Crawley came up to me at halftime specifically and told me as a leader I needed to pick up on the glass; I just took that into my mind. I didn't worry about the points even though they weren't really falling for me in the first half. Rebounding is something that I control. Domenica (Silva) and Chandra (Myers) came in huge, had some huge rebounds for us. We did do well on the rebounding side; they did have some big post players.

Junior Quintana Ward

On earning the win:

This is our home floor; we take a lot of pride here. It was alumni night so I just wanted to come out and play hard for my team and get a win that we know we can have.

On the importance of the wins against Ball State and Central Michigan:

It was just a big win for us on the road at their place. They had a long winning streak at home so that was big. The momentum carried us over into this game tonight. I just think we came out and played hard, this game felt so good. We were down 10 points and we came back and just kept fighting. Like Rachel said we have a couple of tough teams on the road coming up, so we are just taking this and running with it, focusing on getting the MAC championship.

Head Coach Sylvia Crawley

On tonight's game:

It started when we got the 11-0 run. All week long we have been saying to our players that Central Michigans record was not an indicator of their team. They are a very good team, they are a very good team, their scrappy, and they fight to the end. We were preparing them for a really tough game. We were down by three at halftime, we made some adjustments. I thought when we were rebounding extremely well we were up. The minute Central Michigan began crashing the offensive boards that when we lost our lead. This was a battle of the boards basically is what it came down to. Before the game I told the team, the team who wins the boards will win this game. In the second half we tried to focus more on our rebounding. I thought that they hurt us a lot inside with their post players. Really it just came down to the players playing with a lot of heart, and making big stops when it counted.

On the improvement of Sophomore Chandra Myers:

Chandra Myers has been putting in a lot of extra time before and after practice, she works out with Coach Lanier, she has been going against me. Her confidence is growing; she's getting more confident every single day. With her coming in and working extra her teammates are gaining more confidence in her to throw the ball inside to her and its making a big difference. She is one of our few post players who is very vocal, she will call for the ball. We are able to play inside out when she is in. She has been doing a great job for us. She gave us some huge minutes tonight. Domenica Silva got into foul trouble and Chandra Myers came in and had some huge rebounds tonight.

On Quintana Wards performance:

I think she just basically tried to take the team and carry them on her shoulders, which is ironic because she's the smallest player on the team. She made some mistakes defensively in the beginning of the game and I got on her so I think she just tried to make up for her defensive mistakes on the offensive in. I thought she had more of a scores mentality then she ever has as a point guard for us tonight.

On upcoming MAC competition:

It is very encouraging because were getting ready to play away games vs. Toledo and Eastern Michigan. I think everyone is scouting each other to death right know. I thought tonight's game is going to help us on the road because we had to learn how to fight, and were going to have to fight for two games on the road so that's going to come in handy for us.

On the status of Junior Simone Redd:

Simone (Redd) is tired of watching. She has to do it gradually, make sure she is rehabbing. We found some special shoes for her that will take a little pressure of her foot when she's going to class and walking up hills here at Ohio University. She has to get back into shape; she needs to make sure she is sharp.

On the team:

It was a good sign for me just because I was afraid that maybe we peaked to early in the season. I think that we are coming around exactly when we need to in the season. Even though were winning were still learning from each win. A lot of times you learn from losing, but we're learning from the games that we win as well. We have seven more games till the tournament. Every game is going to be a fight to the finish. The good thing is our team is coming around at the right time.
