TOLEDO, Ohio - Junior guard Mariah Byard (Mannington, W. Va.) scored a game-high 17 points off the bench, but the Ohio University women's basketball team (8-15, 3-9 MAC) lost a 62-58 nail-biter at Toledo (12-11, 7-5 MAC) in a Mid-American Conference cross-division matchup on Saturday (Feb. 15) at Savage Arena.

The Bobcats dropped their eighth straight game.

In just her second game back from an injury that kept her out for eight straight games, Byard matched her season high by knocking down five three-pointers. She reached double figures for the eighth time this season.

Sophomore forward Lexie Baldwin (Hattiesburg, Miss.) fell a rebound short of a double-double, posting 15 points - including 13 in the second half - to go along with a team-high nine boards. She also recorded a team-high three steals. The contest marked the eighth time this season Baldwin has hit double digits in points.

Redshirt sophomore guard Kat Yelle (Geneva, Ill.) added nine points and a team-high three assists. Sophomore guard Kiyanna Black (Columbus, Ohio) chipped in eight points.

Byard sunk three of her five treys in the first half, and the Bobcats limited the Rockets to just 24.2% shooting from the field in the opening 20 minutes to hold Toledo to a four-point halftime lead at 28-24.

Baldwin set the tone for the second half, outscoring Toledo by a 9-4 count over the opening four-and-a-half minutes to give the Bobcats a 33-32 lead.

Toledo went back up by three on a trey by senior guard Andola Dortch, giving the Rockets a 38-35 lead with just over 12 minutes to play.

A layup by Yelle cut Toledo's lead back to one point with just over 11 minutes to go, but Dortch drew a foul and sunk two free throws to put the Rockets back up by three with 11 minutes left.

The Bobcats answered with a layup by Baldwin, then forced a turnover at the other end that led to a trey by Black that put Ohio up 42-40 with just over 10 minutes left.

Black struck again less than a minute later, nailing another three to make it 45-41 in favor of the Bobcats.

Toledo recovered by scoring the next six points to go back up by two at 47-45 with 7:43 to play, but Byard retaliated by sinking another three to put Ohio back in front, 48-47.

Baldwin stole the ball from Toledo with 6:26 to go, then freshman forward Hannah Boesinger (Hudson, Ohio) fed the rock to freshman guard Quiera Lampkins (Gahanna, Ohio), who hit a jumper to extend Ohio's lead to 50-47.

A layup by Dortch at the other end shaved Ohio's lead down to one, but Byard hit a trey on the ensuing possession to increase Ohio's lead to 53-49 with 5:33 to play.

Unfortunately for Ohio, the Rockets outscored the Bobcats, 13-5 down the stretch to earn the victory.

Dortch totaled 12 points and dished out a game-high five assists and four steals. Junior guard/forward Inman Zanoguera earned a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Senior guard Janelle Reed-Lewis tallied 11 points while freshman forward Janice Monakana chipped in 10 points.

Ohio concludes its two-game MAC West road swing when it takes on Western Michigan on Wednesday (Feb. 19). Tip-off from Kalamazoo, Mich., is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
