Ohio shot 20-67 (29.9 percent) from the field throughout the game, including a 4-12 (33.3 percent) mark from three-point distance. Miami (21-8, 11-5) finished 16-46 (34.8 percent) from the field. The RedHawks held a 42-37 rebounding edge in the game. Ohio forced the RedHawks into 18 turnovers while only committing a season-low seven of its own.

The Bobcats got off to a strong start, connecting on four early field goals to take an 11-9 lead into the under-12 media timeout. Robinson (Canton, Ohio) scored a quick five points for the Green and White and Mariah Byard (Mannington, W.Va.) added a big three-pointer of her own.

Miami was able to gain and stretch a lead in the middle of the first half when Maggie Boyer got hot from distance. The senior drained back-to-back threes at an important stretch in the frame to give her side a 21-16 advantage. Ohio had difficulty connecting from the field during this stretch, making only two baskets from the 10:30 to 6:23 mark.

Erin Bailes (Huntingon, W.Va.) was able to break this streak with a mid-range jumper and Tenishia Benson was able to add another basket of her own with just under two minutes remaining. The `Cats were able to enter the locker room down only four at halftime, trailing 24-20.

Both teams struggled from the field to start the second frame, shooting a combined 8-23 throughout the first eight minutes. Miami was able to hold onto its slim margin during this time, keeping a 34-29 advantage at the 11:45 mark.

Ohio was able to clip this deficit to just one at the 10:01 mark thanks to back-to-back baskets from Ashley Fowler (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Robinson. The latter came on a great fast-break pass from Bailes. With 8:04 left in the game, Ohio was able to take a 35-34 lead when Benson (Akron, Ohio) scored a put-back basket down low.

Miami was able to pick up the pace at this point, ripping off a quick 7-0 run to take a 41-35 lead. Ohio was able to answer back immediately, getting a Tina Fisher (Cottage Grove, Minn.) lay-in down low and a Bailes three from the corner to pull within one (41-40) at the 4:22 mark.

The game was a back-and-forth affair from this point on, coming down to Miami's final possession at a 49-49 scoreline with 14 seconds left. Hencke was able to sink a layup with five seconds remaining, giving her team the late victory.
