ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio women's basketball team dropped its 2007 season home opener to South Alabama, 73-59, on Tuesday night at the Convocation Center.

The Jaguars from Mobile, Ala., were led offensively by guard Siedah Banks' 15 points and Jeanette Tucker and Ra'Shawna Sippio also pitched in double-digit scoring with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Ohio's senior guard, Lauren Kohn (Adrian, Mich.), was the only Bobcat in double figures with 13 points. Freshman Kamille Bucker (Chicago, Ill.) added nine points and junior center Chandra Myers (Sugarcreek, Ohio) pitched in seven points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Ohio struggled to match the Jaguars' overall team speed and South Alabama used its quickness to force 21 Bobcat turnovers while surrendering just 12 of its own.

The Sun Belt Conference member recorded 10 steals, one block and was called for five less fouls than the Bobcats. South Alabama also edged Ohio in three point attempts completed, making 6-of-19 shots from outside while Ohio sank just 2-of-13 from downtown.

Ohio struggled from the charity stripe as well, hitting 7-of-15 free throws (46.7%), while South Alabama connected on 15-of-22 freebies (68.2%).

The Bobcats will play host to Presbyterian College on Nov. 24 for their second home contest of the young season while South Alabama heads back home to play host to Tulsa this Saturday.
