ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio Women's Basketball picked up its first win of the season on Saturday, defeating the Marshall Thundering Herd by a final score of 68-56 in the Convocation Center. Two Bobcats finished with double-doubles and Ohio never played from behind during the victory.

Ohio (1-1) shot 40.3 percent from the field in the win--including going 4-for-8 from behind the arc--while holding Marshall (1-2) to 35.9 percent from the floor. Though the teams were relatively even in terms of turnovers committed, Ohio took better advantage of Marshall's miscues, scoring 23 points off the mistakes.

Junior Porsha Harris (Chicago, Ill.) scored a game-high 14 points and tied for a game-high 13 rebounds. Redshirt senior Tenishia Benson (Akron, Ohio) finished with 11 points while also grabbing a career-high 13 rebounds. Sophomore Shavon Robinson (Canton, Ohio) closely followed Harris with 12 points.

With an early three, sophomore Erin Bailes (Huntington, W.Va.) got the Bobcats off to a strong start. Following a quick score by Marshall, Ohio ripped off a 9-0 run to grab an early 12-2 lead.

Marshall was successful in slowing down the pace of the game over the next few minutes, bringing the score to 25-21 with 8:57 remaining in the first half. The teams traded baskets and forced each other into turnovers throughout the rest of the half, but the Bobcats were able to end it on a high note with a layup by Harris in the waning seconds. The teams went to their respective locker rooms with the Bobcats leading, 42-30.

Freshman Kat Yelle (Geneva, Ill.) opened up the second half by scoring four of the first seven points of the frame, bringing the score to 46-32 with 18:30 on the clock. Marshall fought hard to close the gap and was making some progress before a big three by Alesia Howard (Columbus, Ohio) extended the lead to 51-40 with 15:53 left in the contest.

Marshall was able to pull within four at around the two-minute mark but an 8-0 Bobcat run put the game out of the Thundering Herd's reach for good.

Saturday's win marks the 24th against the Herd in school history in the 38th meeting between the two schools.

The Bobcats will next be in action on Wednesday, Nov. 23 when they host Belmont. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
