Ohio Holds On To Defeat Hampton, 70-64

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Ohio (3-3) women's basketball team defeated Hampton University (4-3) Saturday afternoon, 70-64, in the consolation game of the 12th Annual Air Force Classic in Colorado Springs.

Senior Lauren Kohn (Adrian, Mich.) put up her first double-double of the season with a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds. Kohn shot 6-of-12 from the floor, including 3-of-6 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.

Junior Catherine Cain (Dayton, Ohio) and senior Quintana Ward (Park Forest, Ill.) also scored in double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Cain shot 5-of-7 from the floor, 3-of-5 from the free throw line and finished with three rebounds. She was also selected to the all-tourney team. Ward went 4-of-9 from the floor and led the `Cats with seven assists.

Sophomore Jennifer Poff (St. Johns, Mich.) and freshman Kamille Buckner (Chicago, Ill.) also had top performances for the Bobcats. Poff scored nine points, while finishing second on the team with eight rebounds and four assists. She also had two steals. Buckner scored eight points and pulled down seven rebounds.

The Pirates were led in scoring by Stephanie James with 17 points. James shot 6-of-9 from the floor and nailed five of eight three-point attempts. Ashlee Finley scored 14 points for the Pirates, while Quanneisha Perry added 10 points.

After Ohio led by as many as 20 points in the first half and 12 points at halftime, Hampton made a push in the second frame and edged closer and closer to taking the lead and possibly the victory.

But even after coming within one point, 65-64, with 3:03 left in the game, the Pirates couldn't pull ahead of the `Cats and missed two straight field goal opportunities before Finley fouled Ward at the 1:31 mark. Ward made one of the two free throws to extend Ohio's lead to 66-64.

Bobcat junior Chandra Myers (Sugarcreek, Ohio) followed with two more free throws with 45 seconds left in regulation for a 68-64 Bobcat advantage. Myers finished the game with five points.

A steal by Poff with 25 seconds remaining, led to a foul by the Pirates that put Kohn on the line. She made both shots to seal the 70-64 win for Ohio.

The Air Force Classic All-Tournament Team will be announced after the championship game today.
