Ohio Sophomore Rachel Frederick
On grinding out the win:
"Lehigh played a junk defense. It initially looked like a 2-3 defense, but they would switch to a man-to-man. That was hard to adjust to in the beginning, which was the reason for our slow start"
On the bench:
"Our bench came up huge for us today. Lauren Hmiel, Alana Trotter, Jennifer Bushby, and Chandra Myers all came in and helped us defensively, when our offense was struggling."
On playing the power forward spot:
"I can't complain at all. I'm just trying to do what I can to help us win.
On playing a tough game before a road trip:
"I think it was good for us to play a tough game before our road trip. Tonight's game showed our character. It showed that we can come out on top through tough situations.
Ohio Freshman Jennifer Bushby
On working through a bad night shooting as a team:
"Defense. It all comes down to defense. Coach Crawley has preached defense since she's been here. When our shots aren't falling we definitely know we are going to have to step up and pressure the ball to cause turnovers, so we can creative easy shots for ourselves."
On adjusting to Division I Basketball:
"It's a lot of had work. It's definitely a lot faster. My teammates have made the transition easier for me by always pushing and encouraging me everyday in practice. With this coaching staff and this team, I'll continue to do my best because they all push me to do my best."
On the team's first road trip:
"I think that our coaches will definitely prepare us for it. I think it will be a challenge for us, with the new coaching staff and the fact that we, as a team, haven't been there yet. I think that tonight was an important win for us because we head out on the road with some momentum from being undefeated."
Coach Sylvia Crawley:
On the game:
"I thought our bench won this game for us tonight. Jennifer Bushby gave us a huge spark off the bench defensively and ran the floor hard in transition. Alana Trotter did a good job when Domenica Silva got into foul trouble. Lauren Hmiel came in and gave us a spark as well. I was very pleased with our bench. I think that we needed this before going out on the road, because we have a lot of games coming up. We going to need our bench to have confidence and know that they can perform coming into a game.
On being undefeated:
"I told our players before the game that the more you win the harder it gets. Now we're a marked target because we're undefeated. Everyone is going to play their best game against us. No one will take us lightly. We're just preparing the players to play hard for 40 minutes."
On Jennifer Bushby:
Jennifer Bushby is a gamer. She didn't have great practices this week. She just goes through the motions in practice, but when she gets into a game she's always ready to play. She definitely gives us a push. She very versatile, which allows us to keep her on the floor at two different positions."
