ATHENS, Ohio- Four Ohio University women's basketball players scored in double figures to lead the Bobcats (3-5) to a thrilling 79-72 overtime victory over Morehead State Sunday afternoon at the Convocation Center.
Freshman Kiyanna Black (Columbus, Ohio) scored a team-high 19 points. Black's 19-point effort marked the fourth consecutive game in which she has scored in double figures. Joining Black in double figures was junior Shavon Robinson (Canton, Ohio), freshman Lexie Baldwin (Hattiesburg, Miss.) and sophomore Mariah Byard (Mannington, W.Va.) as they finished with 17, 14 and 10 points, respectively.
The Bobcats shot their highest percentage of the season in the win, connecting on 25 of 54 field-goal attempts to finish at 46.3 percent. Ohio also hit a season-high 10 three-pointers on Sunday and notched its highest single-game assist mark (17) of the year.
Terrice Robinson had a very strong game for the visiting Eagles, scoring 39 points on 16-of-32 shooting from the field. Robinson's 39-point effort was just two points shy of tying her school's single-game record.
Ohio only trailed twice in the opening 20 minutes of the game and led by as many as six points. Robinson scored 10 of the Bobcats' first 14 points to help the Bobcats jump out to a 14-8 lead at the 11:14 mark of the first half. Ohio took a 33-29 lead into the locker room and outshot MSU 43.5-41.4 percent from the field. The Bobcats also held a 54.5-22.2 percent advantage from 3-point range.
The Bobcats led by seven points with 14:45 to go in the game and appeared to be in control, but the Eagles fought back and took their first lead of the contest at the 12:36 mark of the second half. Ohio would not lead again until the 2:08 mark of the second half. Robinson gave the Bobcats the lead as she connected on a three-pointer just in front of the Bobcats' bench, pushing Ohio ahead by one, 64-63.
Morehead State (1-8) reclaimed the lead on the following possession to take a 65-64 advantage, but Ohio responded by drilling four straight free throws to take a 68-65 lead with just 10 seconds remaining. The Eagles would not quit as Robinson connected on a three-pointer to send the game into overtime.
In the overtime session, Ohio trailed by just one point (70-69) with 3:52 to go in the game, but the Bobcats outscored the Eagles 10-2 in the final 3:30 to secure the win. Black scored seven points in the overtime session to pace the Bobcats.
Ohio returns to action on Dec. 15 as it travels to Marshall. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. The Bobcats' next home game is set for Jan. 10, 2013 as they open league play against Akron.
