GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The Ohio University women's basketball team (4-5) held a two-point edge at halftime, but East Carolina University (10-1) rallied to secure a 76-47 victory on Friday (Dec. 20) at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
The Bobcats owned a 35-32 edge going into the halftime break, but the Pirates outscored Ohio, 43-12, over the final 20 minutes of play. Bench points proved to be a decisive factor in the East Carolina comeback, as the Pirates held a 32-10 edge.
Sophomore forward Lexie Baldwin (Hattiesburg, Miss.) posted her second career double-double to lead Ohio, tallying a team-high 11 points and 10 rebounds. Baldwin has reached double figures in scoring five times in 2013-14 - including each of the last two games. Friday's contest marked the first time Baldwin has compiled double digit rebounds this season.
Ohio led 24-16 with just under seven minutes remaining in the first half, thanks in large part to redshirt sophomore guard Kat Yelle (Geneva, Ill.) tallying seven of her nine points over the first eight minutes of play.
East Carolina closed the half on a 17-11 run, then completed the comeback by outscoring the Bobcats by 31 points in the second half.
Three Pirates reached double digits in scoring, with redshirt sophomore guard/forward Jada Payne leading the way with a game-high 24 points. Senior guard/forward Kristine Mial and freshman guard J'Kyra Brown came off the bench to contribute 12 points and 11 points, respectively.
Ohio closes out December by taking part in the James Madison Tournament in Harrisonburg, Va. The Bobcats square off with host James Madison on Sunday, Dec. 29, at 2:30 p.m. ET, then will face either Norfolk State or UMBC the following day.
