Akron is coming off of losses to Dayton (90-59), Youngstown State (80-71), and most recently a win over Chicago State (86-45).
Rachel Tecca leads the way offensively for Akron, scoring 19.4 points and pulling down 7.8 rebounds per game. She is followed closely by Hannah Luburgh (16.2 points per game) and Sina King (14.7). Together, these three players are the No. 1, 3, and 4 scorers in the Mid-American Conference as of games played Jan. 7. King is the conference’s second leading rebounder at 8.9 per game.

Ohio – Akron Series History
Thursday’s game will serve as the 49th meeting in the all-time series between Ohio and Akron. The Bobcats hold a very one-sided 34-14 edge in the series which has its roots in the 1976-77 season. At one point in the series, Ohio won 16 straight games against Akron, not losing to the Zips from 2001-08.
Akron has taken four of the last five meetings between the schools, with the programs splitting last season’s series. Ohio won 72-71 in overtime in Athens on Jan. 19 while the Zips claimed a 71-65 victory in Akron on Valentine’s Day 2012.
The Bobcats are 21-4 all-time against Akron in The Convocation Center.
Now That’s a Start!
Ohio played very strong defense in the opening minutes of its Jan. 5 win at Xavier. The Bobcats limited the Musketeers to a mere 25 percent from the field in the first half and a 1-15 clip in the first 11:01.
MAC East Player of the Week
On Jan. 7, Kiyanna Black was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week for her 23-point effort during Ohio’s Jan. 5 win at Xavier. The weekly honor was the first of her career and the first earned by a Bobcat this season.
Let Me Take That Off Your Hands
As of games played Jan. 7, Ashley Fowler leads the Mid-American Conference with 2.7 steals per game. This also ranks well nationally, as she is currently No. 86 in all of NCAA Division One basketball in terms of steals per game.
Ohio posted an impressive 1.9 assist-to-turnover ratio during the win at Xavier. The Bobcats assisted on 13 of 26 field goals while only committing seven miscues.
A Marked Improvement
Throughout the first four games of the season, freshman guard Kiyanna Black was averaging 5.3 points per game and had not yet scored in double figures. In the eight games since, she is now averaging 11.7 per contest and has scored in double figures on seven occasions.
Senior point guard Ashley Fowler has been the model of consistency for the Bobcats this season. The native of Cincinnati, Ohio, has started all 12 games, leads the team in minutes played (415), and has dished out a team-high 41 assists.
Fisher from Downtown!
Tina Fisher connected on her first three-pointer of the season on Jan. 5 at Xavier. This was the first three-pointer she had made since a Feb. 11, 2012 win over Ball State.
