ATHENS, Ohio - After scoring 22 points in both of Ohio's wins last week, senior Lauren Kohn has been named the MAC East Player of the Week, announced by the league office today. Kohn also averaged 6.5 rebounds, four steals and 2.5 assists, while helping the Bobcats improve to a 4-2 record in the MAC.
Kohn (Adrian, Mich.) led the Bobcats to a 78-64 victory over Akron on Tuesday, shooting 7-of-11 from the floor, including 6-of-8 from the free throw line and 2-of-5 from three point range. In addition, she had four steals, two assists and a block. Against Central Michigan on Saturday, Kohn was perfect at the charity stripe nailing 7-of-7 attempts, while making 7-of-15 field goal attempts. She also had four rebounds, four steals and three assists in 37 minutes of action.
Kohn has scored in double-digits in 16 games this season, including four games in which she scored 20 or more points. She currently leads the team with 15.9 points per game and averages 17.3 points and 7.2 rebounds in conference play alone.
It is the second straight weekly MAC award for the Bobcats and is the first ever for Kohn. Sophomore Jennifer Bushby was the MAC East Player of the Week last week.
According to the recent NCAA national rankings summary on Jan. 24, Kohn is ranked 12th in the nation in three point field goal percentage and is 30th in free throw percentage. She has led the `Cats in scoring all season long and has scored 1,217 points in her career, including 785 points in her years as a Bobcat.
The Ohio women's basketball team is on a four-game winning streak and will host Ball State Wednesday night at The Convo. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
