ATHENS, Ohio - For the second consecutive week, Ohio women's basketball player Lauren Kohn has been named the MAC East Player of the Week, announced by the league office today.
Kohn led the Bobcats to another undefeated week in the Mid-American Conference by scoring a game-high 22 points against Ball State on Wednesday and 21 points at Western Michigan on Saturday. Kohn averaged 21.5 points and 7.5 rebounds on the week, while shooting 50 percent from the field, including 37.5 percent from three point range. She also knocked down 14-of-16 free throw attempts to finish the week shooting 87.5 percent from the line.
Against the Cardinals, Kohn scored 22 points for the third consecutive game, including shooting 8-of-10 from the charity stripe. She also had seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in the game. At Western Michigan, Kohn made 7-of-10 field goal shots and was perfect at the free throw line for the 10th time this season, nailing 6-of-6 attempts. She also finished the game with eight rebounds.
Kohn has scored in double-digits in 18 games this season, including six games in which she scored 20 or more points. She currently leads the team with 16.5 points per game and averages 18.4 points and 7.3 rebounds in conference play alone.
It is the third straight weekly MAC award for the Bobcats and the second ever for Kohn. Sophomore Jennifer Bushby was the MAC East Player of the Week two weeks ago.
According to the recent NCAA national rankings summary on Jan. 31, the Bobcats are ranked second in the nation in three-point field goal percentage, while Kohn is ranked 15th in the nation in three point field goal percentage and is 24th in free throw percentage. She has led the `Cats in scoring all season long and has scored 1,260 points in her career, including 828 points in her years as a Bobcat.
The Ohio women's basketball team is on a six-game winning streak and will host Eastern Michigan Saturday at 12 p.m.
