ATHENS, Ohio - Tenishia Benson has been named to the Mid-American Conference's Women's Basketball First Team, the league office announced on Tuesday. The senior was named to the Preseason All-MAC Team at the beginning of the 2011-12 season and has lived up to that honor, having a tremendous senior campaign for Ohio.

Benson's First Team All-MAC honor is the first time that the Bobcats have placed a student-athlete on the First Team since Lauren Kohn received similar honors at the end of the 2007-08 season.

Averaging 14.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, Benson leads the Bobcats in both categories. Her statistical averages stack up well within the MAC, as she ranks in the top ten in: points per game (4th), field-goal percentage (10th), rebounding (7th), free-throw percentage (5th), steals (6th) and offensive rebounds (6th).

An incredibly consistent player for the Bobcats, Benson has scored in double figures in 24 of the 27 games she has played this season. At one point she scored in double figures for 12 straight games, something which hadn't been done for 109 games (four seasons). Her free-throw percentage of 81.4 is second on the team and during a stretch of the season from late December to early January she made 29 consecutive free throws.

Joining Benson (Akron, Ohio) on the First Team are Alexis Rogers (Bowling Green), Brittany Hedderson (Buffalo), Tavelyn James (Eastern Michigan) and Courtney Osborn (Miami). For a full list of Mid-American Conference award winners, please see below:
