ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio redshirt junior Tenishia Benson and freshman Shavon Robinson both received postseason awards from the Mid-American Conference league office Tuesday. Robinson was named to the All-Freshman Team and Benson was named All-MAC Honorable Mention.
Benson was the second-leading scorer and leading rebounder in the Bobcats' win over Northern Illinois in the first round of the MAC Tournament. She leads Ohio with 13.7 points per game and 7.1 rebounds and was named MAC East Player of the Week back on December 20. Benson was in a stretch of games where she recorded three-consecutive double-doubles and averaged 21.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals. Benson has recorded seven double-doubles in her collegiate career and tied the Ohio single-game record with nine steals against Wright State, narrowly missing a triple-double (16 points, nine rebounds, nine steals).
Robinson had a career-high 22 points in Ohio's final game of the regular season, a 76-47 drubbing of rival Miami. She is currently third on the team in scoring and shooting 43 percent from the field during her first season in Athens. In MAC play, Robinson averaged 11.5 points per game, 4.4 rebounds and shot 77 percent from the free-throw line. Over the last two months, her scoring average has increased to 12.6 points per game.
