Frederick to Transfer
ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio women's basketball player Rachel Frederick has decided to leave Ohio and transfer to a school closer to home. "I've decided to leave Ohio because of family circumstances," said Frederick. I had a couple of deaths in the family last season and was going home a lot. I wanted to be with my family then, but I knew that Ohio was a great place and didn't' want to leave at that time. I love Ohio so much, I decided to stay." Frederick, a native of Gibsonia, Pa., started every game last season and averaged 13.1 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. She was named Team MVP and was selected third-team All-MAC. She led the team in five categories and was the MAC's leading rebounder. "Her presence on our team is definitely going to be missed," said Head Women's Basketball Coach Sylvia Crawley. "She was a team captain and led the team in rebounding and the conference in double-doubles. She's just a wonderful person. It's been a pleasure to coach her." Frederick said that she recently found out that her brother has cancer and that his chemotherapy will be a year-long process. "With all this going on, I just feel like being closer to home," said Frederick. "I think it's the best thing to do right now. I've thought long and hard about it. I've prayed about it and think that going home and spending time with my family is the best thing to do." "I have nothing but positive memories at Ohio. I want to thank Ohio and the Athens community for all the support. I wish nothing but the best for everyone." |
