ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio Bobcats field hockey team defeated Missouri State 4-1 at Peggy Pruitt Field on Saturday afternoon in Mid-American Conference action. The win takes Ohio to 9-7, 6-2 in the MAC while Missouri State drops to 5-10 on the season, 1-7 in the conference. The win also gives the Bobcats sole possession of first place in the MAC.

The Bears scored first off a scramble in front of the goal from Mel Behr only four minutes into the game. The Bobcats would later tie the score at one in the 21st minute off a goal by Katelyn Shelley (Ephrata, Pa.) who was assisted by Torrie Albini (Escondido, Calif.). The Bobcats would add another goal from Megan Rentschler (Akron, Pa.) off an assist from Rachelle Coetzee (Bloemfontein, South Africa) before the half.

At the end of the first half the Bobcats held a 2-1 advantage. Ohio outshot the Bears 8-1 and won the penalty corner battle eight-to-one.

In the second half the Bobcats continued their offensive attack by scoring two more times to put the Beas away. The Bobcats goals came from Estienne Coetzee (Bloemfontein, South Africa) and Marcy Dull (Ephrata, Pa.).

The Bobcats four goals against Missouri State were impressive because the Bears goalkeeper Kim Kinsella has been number one nationally in save percentage. Her save percentage currently sits at .832.

The Bobcats outshot the Bears 17-2 and earned eight penalty corners to Missouri State's three. The Bobcat defense was strong, only allowing one shot one goal.

Ohio returns to action Sunday Oct. 22 when they host MAC foe Kent State at Peggy Pruitt Filed. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
