- The No. 20-ranked Ohio University field hockey team (19-5) dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 1 North Carolina in the Second Round of the NCAA tournament Saturday afternoon.
Ohio held North Carolina scoreless in the first half. Senior goalkeeper Jen McGill (Louisville, Ky.) made three saves in the frame as the Bobcats held the Tar Heels scoreless in the first half for just the seventh time this season.
McGill finished the game with a game-high nine saves.
Coming out of the locker room, North Carolina came out firing as it broke the scoreless tie less than three minutes into the second half. North Carolina's J. Gaudioso Radvany as scored her 15th goal of the year.
North Carolina struck again at the 48:02 mark as Loren Shealy found the net to give the Tar Heels a 2-0 lead. The Tar Heels added another goal a minute and three seconds later to increase their lead to 3-0. The final goal came from Mata Maimbeg at the 61:04 mark.
The Bobcats threatened several times in the final 15 minutes of the game as Brooke Edwards, Jessica Jue, Marissa Higgins and Kristine Gegas all registered shots, but none were able to find the net. Ohio was outshot by North Carolina 19-4.
Ohio finished the regular season 9-1 in Mid-American Conference play, tying the best league mark in program history. The Bobcats also matched the current MAC record for wins with their 19th of the season (Ball State - 1994, 1997; Kent State - 2000) in the NCAA Play-In game against Lafayette.
