Ohio Field Hockey Head Coach Neil Macmillan and his staff have announced their 2013 recruiting class, which includes two incoming student-athletes who will join the team this fall.
Midfielders Kristen Buchanan (San Diego, Calif.) and Hannah Kingsbury (Louisville, Ky.) signed National Letters of Intent (NLI) Wednesday to compete with the Bobcats in 2013.
"We're very excited for both Kristen and Hannah to join the Ohio Bobcats family," Macmillan said. "We look forward to integrating them into our team during the pre-season in August."
Buchanan , a 5-foot-5-inch midfielder, comes to Athens after competing at Torrey Pines High School in San Diego, Calif., from 2009-12. A four-year starter and senior captain, Buchanan recorded a team-high 21 points on 10 goals and 11 assists during the 2012 season. She was named the team's Most Valuable Player and earned the "I am TP" Leadership Award, given annually to the top leaders at Torrey Pines High School. A 2012 first-team all-league selection, Buchanan also was named to the HESSA San Diego All-Star Team.
Buchanan competed for the nationally-competitive RUSH club field hockey team during her high school career and was named to the 2010 United States Junior Olympic Team. A 2012 and 2013 Futures Elite selection, Buchanan also played in the National Futures Championships in 2010 and 2011. She was a part of the National Futures Elite Championships as a junior in 2012.
"Kristen is a very good distributor and a knowledgeable defender," Macmillan said. "She has the ability to see the field well and has an excellent mindset for team play."
Kingsbury, a 5-foot-2-inch midfielder, was a four-year varsity student-athlete at Dupont Manual High School in Louisville, Ky. A 2012 NFHCA all-region selection, Kingsbury was a two-time first-team all-state pick (2011, 2012) and earned academic all-state honors in her junior and senior seasons. As a junior, she helped lead Dupont Manual to a Kentucky state championship title.
During her high school career, Kingsbury competed with Louisville's top club team, Bluegrass Elite. She also was selected to the 2011 United State Junior Olympic Team and played in the National Futures Championships in 2010 and 2011.
"Hannah is a dynamic and skillful player," Macmillan said. "She's really impressed us with her personal development over the past few years. We like her athleticism and her stick skills. She will hopefully become an influential player in our midfield during her career at Ohio."
