Former Bobcat Albini in Running for Olympic Spot

Torrie Albini

Feb. 15, 2012

ATHENS, Ohio - Former Ohio Bobcat field hockey standout Torrie Albini is among the finalists for a spot on the U.S. national women's field hockey team.

Albini is currently as close as you can get to being an official Olympian without yet being one - the 23-woman U.S. roster must be pared to 16 for London. She will be part of the team that leaves next week for the Four Nations Tournament in Terrassa, Spain.

A striker and veteran of 21 caps, Albini became a member of the USA Women's National Development Team in 2010 after the Women's National Championship (WNC) where she was the leading goal scorer. She moved up to the National Team after a successful performance at the 2011 WNC.

During her career at Ohio University, Albini, a native of Escondido, Calif., established herself as one of the top offensive players in the Mid-American Conference. At Ohio, she ranks second in career goals with 49 and fourth in career assists with 24.
