ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio Field Hockey received a 2011 National Academic Team Award and placed 10 student-athletes on the 2011 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division One National Academic Squad.

Seniors Brooke Edwards, Jenna Green and Jen McGill were joined by juniors Cathryn Altdoerffer and Laura Mastro, sophomores Jessica Vaeth and Katherine Fenzel and freshmen Ashley Cureton, Kristine Gegas and Caelyn Hartley.

The National Academic Team Award goes to any program that attains a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and the National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester (quarter) of the 2011-12 academic year.

Green, a defensive stalwart for the Bobcats and four-time NFHCA Scholar Athlete, was also a MAC All-Tournament Team selection. She started every game for Ohio, who had the stingiest defense in the MAC and one of the best backlines in the nation (1.09 goals per game).

McGill, a three-time NFHCA Scholar Athlete, was also named All-MAC and picked to be on the MAC All-Tournament Team. She finished second in the nation in goals-against average (0.82) and placed eighth in the nation in save percentage (.778). The Louisville native notched 10 shutouts to lead the MAC and was named MAC Defensive Player of the Week back in October.

Edwards was selected for the second year in a row as a NFHCA Scholar Athlete. She scored the game-winning goal in the MAC Championship game for the Bobcats that helped them advance to the NCAA Tournament. Edwards finished ninth in the MAC in scoring with nine goals and six assists. She started every game for Ohio, finishing fourth on the team in goals and points.
