2012 Ohio Field Hockey Schedule
ATHENS, Ohio – With the beginning of the 2012 regular season just a little over a month away, Ohio Field Hockey unveiled its finalized schedule. The Bobcats, ranked 20th nationally in the final NFHCA 2011 poll, will be trying to reach the NCAA Tournament in consecutive years for the first time in program history.
The Bobcats will begin the season in upstate New York with contests against Colgate and No. 3 Syracuse. The home opener will be held on Sat., Sept. 1 when Ohio hosts Radford. The Bobcats will then travel to Bloomington, Ind., for matches with Louisville and Indiana.
The home non-conference slate is highlighted by a home contest against No. 15 Ohio State on Wed., Sept. 12, at 7 p.m. The Green and White will then host Robert Morris over the weekend before opening Mid-American Conference play on Fri., Sept. 21 at Kent State. The Bobcats will be gunning for their fifth MAC title since 2006.
Northwestern will be the second Big Ten team to visit Athens on Sun., Sept. 23 and then Ohio heads to Philadelphia for a contest at Saint Joseph’s. The third ranked opponent on the schedule is the former employer of current Bobcat head coach Neil Macmillan. Ohio plays at No. 18 Wake Forest to open the month of October.
Ohio will then host Ball State before closing the non-conference schedule one day later with a home game against Michigan State on Sun., Oct. 7. Senior Day will be Sat., Oct. 13 when the Bobcats host Missouri State and with the league going to a single-robin format, Ohio will close regular season play with conference games at Central Michigan and Miami.
