Field Hockey Picked Second In MAC Preseason Poll

Brittany Walker and the Bobcats open the season Aug. 31 at No. 16 Boston University

ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University field hockey team was picked to finish second in the Mid-American Conference Preseason Coaches Poll released Wednesday.

The Bobcats earned two of six first place votes and also received a vote to win the 2013 MAC Tournament. Miami was picked to win the league and also received one MAC Tournament vote.

Central Michigan and Kent State each garnered a league-high two votes to win the conference tournament.

One of the premier programs in the Mid-American Conference, the Bobcats have claimed the MAC regular season and tournament title in four of the past seven seasons. The Bobcats have earned an NCAA Tournament berth in each of those campaigns, including a berth in the Sweet 16 in 2011.

This season, the Bobcats return 15 letter winners and seven starters from a 2012 squad that posted an 8-9 record and a 2-3 mark in Mid-American Conference action.

Ohio will be led by 2012 All-MAC Second Team selection Jessica Jue (Vancouver, British Columbia), who ranked second on the team with 16 points (4 goals, 8 assists) last season. Junior goalkeeper Brittany Walker (Elizabethtown, Pa.) - a three-time MAC Defensive Player of the Week last season - will anchor the Bobcat defense in the cage in 2013.

The MAC will announce the 2013 Preseason All-MAC Teams on Thursday.
