ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio University field hockey junior goalkeeper Brittany Walker (Elizabethtown, Pa.) has been named the MAC Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
It marks the first time this season and fourth time in her career that Walker has earned the honor.
This past weekend, Walker starred for the Bobcats In goal - posting a 0.64 goals against average and .889 save percentage - while leading Ohio to a 1-1 record this weekend in Evanston, Ill.
Against Cal on Saturday, the Elizabethtown, Pa., native posted her first shutout of the season and fourth of her career while making three saves. Walker then went up against the No. 12 team in the nation, Northwestern, on Sunday and allowed just one goal while making five saves in 70 minutes of action on the road. In all, Walker has allowed just one goal over her last 140 minutes in the cage.
"I thought Brittany was excellent in goal all weekend," head coach Neil Macmillan said. "What doesn't show up on the scoresheet is that there were a lot of one on ones where she came out and smothered the ball to stop opponent attacks from happening."
The Bobcats return to action this weekend with a road matchup against Big Ten foe Indiana. The contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 21) in Bloomington, Ind.
