ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio field hockey player Nina Bruno has been named the MAC Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the league office today. It is the first MAC award of Bruno's career and the tenth weekly award for the Bobcats this season.

Bruno (Chevy Chase, Md.) scored the first goal of her two-year career last weekend in a 2-1 Bobcat win over Miami on Sunday. She also helped lead the Bobcats to a 4-3 win over Ball State on Friday.

Head Coach Neil Macmillan said, "Nina really played a major part of our success last weekend against two very good teams. She was a steady part of the defense that only conceded 11 shots over the course of both games. It is sometimes hard to notice the players within our team's defense, but Nina has controlled her area of defense very well this season and deserves the recognition."

"We have been working on having her more involved in the attack. Her ability to find the far post for a great close-range goal in her only shot of the week against Miami shows her ability to play all over the pitch."

The Bobcats (12-4, 6-1 MAC) enter their seventh straight week nationally ranked in the STX/NFHCA Division I Coach Poll at No. 15. The `Cats will wrap up a four-game homestand this weekend with games against Kent State and Missouri State. The 'Cats are undefeated at home this season with a 4-0 record.
