ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio goalkeeper Brittany Walker was named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week by the league offices today for the third time this season.
Walker, who came into this weekend's game against Missouri State ranked 10th nationally with a 1.33 goals against average, made seven saves for the `Cats as she helped them improve to 2-1 in MAC play. The sophomore goalkeeper leads the league with three shutouts and owns a .750 save percentage, good for 20th in the nation.
Walker earned her previous POW award after recording her second shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over St. Joe’s. She was honored three weeks ago as well after allowing only one goal in 170 minutes of action against Ohio State and Robert Morris. Walker had eight saves in the contest with the Buckeyes and stopped two tries during the ensuing shootout.
Ohio heads to Mt. Pleasant this Friday for a pivotal MAC contest at Central Michigan. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
