“Getting To Know The @OhioFieldHockey Team” is a series where each player is asked 10 questions about themselves. The questions range from personal interests to background information about each player. Today’s featured player is junior Megan Silveira (Kitchner, Ontario).

Where are you from? Was field hockey a big sport in your hometown?
I am from Ontario, Canada, and field hockey is growing. A lot of my team members from high school ended up coming to the states and played for some pretty good teams. It has definitely grown in our area, but it wasn’t as big when I first started.

What is your favorite thing about Athens?
Honestly I love the buildings. We don’t have universities like this and even traveling around our campus is beautiful. The community has a home feel to it, too.

What is your favorite thing about being a member of the Bobcats?
I think the fact that we will have friends forever. I know that sounds cheesy, but we really are a family off the field and I really think that helps us work together on the field.

What is your hidden talent?
Despite popular belief, Canada isn’t snowing all the time and I am surprisingly good at water sports.

What is your favorite type of music?
I actually don’t have a favorite type of music. It depends on my mood. For studying, it's usually something slower, but anything other than heavy metal or screamo I can listen to.

What artist or type of music do you listen to get pumped up for a match?
I actually listen to the same three songs, “Remember the Name,” “Lose Yourself” by Eminem, and “300 Violins,” on my walk out, but before that whatever is playing in the locker room so the latest hits.

What is your favorite food?
I like pancakes and breakfast food.

What is your favorite sport other than field hockey?
Ice hockey. I’ve played that since before I could walk.

What is your favorite hobby?
Playing hockey.

What is your major? What do you want to do after college?
My major is education and I major in math and English. I hope to teach at a sports oriented school.
