CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference named Ohio's Louzeth Schutte its 2011 Player of the Year, Head Coach Neil Macmillan its Coach of the Year and placed five Bobcats on the All-MAC First Team. Schutte becomes the first Ohio player to win the award since 2007 and the five first-team selections are the most ever for a Bobcat team.

The All-MAC first-team was led by five players from the MAC regular season champion Bobcats. Taylor Brown received first-team honors for the second year in a row. The other four Bobcats to receive honors with the first-team were sophomore Jessica Jue, juniors Taylor Brown and Jen McGill, and senior Louzeth Schutte.

This is the second year in a row Altdoerffer has earned all-league honors after earning a second-team nod last season. McGill was named to the first-team following a season in which she was among the nation’s elite in goal, registering a .60 goals-against-average.

“It is a fantastic achievement by all of them,” Macmillan said. “They feel that this is a reflection of the how the team has performed rather than an individual accolade.”

Schutte collected top honors in the MAC following her dominant season, leading the Bobcats to their seventh regular season title and having the Bobcats receiving votes for the NFHCA Top 20 for most of 2011. Schutte was part of a defense that only allowed 15 goals during the 2011 regular season, and only allowed multiple goals in four matches.

Schutte’s efforts earned her the MAC Defensive Player of the Week three times, as well as the Offensive Player of the Week once. Schutte is the fourth Bobcat to be honored as the MAC Player of the Year, and the first since Jessi Martin was honored in 2007.

“Lo has been outstanding all year and she is our anchor at the back,” Macmillan added “She has really shown a huge amount of skill and poise with the ability to score goals for us this year in key situations.”

Ohio continued to collect on postseason awards as Macmillan was named the 2011 MAC Coach of the Year. Macmillan led the Bobcats to 16-4 overall record in 2011, and had the Bobcats ranked as high as 15th in the national coaches poll. Macmillan also led Ohio University to their fourth league title in his seventh season at the helm with a 9-1 MAC record. This is the third time that Macmillan has been named the MAC Field Hockey’s Coach of the Year.

“It’s an absolute honor to be thought of as the coach of the year because it is voted on by my peers within the conference,” Macmillan said. “I’d like to thank them and my team. Without them playing the way they have this season, I would not be in the position to accept this award.”
