Ohio Women's Golf Falls in Opening Matches of Match Play Challenge

Senior Kara Brinkmann came away victorious in both of her matches on the first day of the Mid-American Match Play Challenge in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. -- The Ohio University women's golf team suffered a 4-1 defeat to Bradley in round one and a 4-1 loss to Northern Illinois in round two at the Mid-American Match Play Challenge on Monday (Feb. 3) at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club.

Senior Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) led the charge against the Braves, defeating Bradley junior Katarina Mangieri, 4 & 3.

Junior Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) was 1 upped by Bradley freshman Paige Jordan. Freshman Hailey Hrynewich (Muskegon, Mich.) was also 1 upped by sophomore Allison Walsh for Bradley.

Sophomore Angela Codian (Massillon, Ohio) and senior Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio) fell to their opponents, both by scores of 6 & 5, to sophomores Jenna Roadley and Danielle Lemek, respectively.

In the second round match-up, Brinkmann posted a 2 & 1 victory over Northern Illinois senior Jenny Niemiec.

Codian and Helmsdoerfer both conceded 4 & 2 losses to freshmen Sydney Brickey and Lena Gautier, respectively. Lechner was defeated, 2 & 1 by sophomore Connie Ellett.

Hrynewich fell in her round to sophomore Sam Coyne, 5 & 3.

The Bobcats will tee-off in the final round tomorrow against No. 3-seeded Akron at 8 a.m. ET.
