Women's Golf Wins Duel Against Akron

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. -- The Ohio University women's golf team finished competition at the Mid-American Match Play Challenge on Tuesday (Feb. 4) with a strong showing in a 4-1 victory over Akron at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club.

Senior Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) defeated Akron sophomore Sierra Everson, 5 & 3, to remain undefeated in the tournament. Brinkmann posted a 3-0 record in the two-day challenge.

Junior Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) and freshman Hailey Hrynewich (Muskegon, Mich.) also defeated their Akron counterparts. Lechner prevailed over junior Laura Murray, 4 & 3, while Hrynewich 2 upped senior Sara Chaves.

In a tight battle, senior Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio) 1 upped freshman Lina Bengtsson. Sophomore Angela Codian (Massillon, Ohio) fell to sophomore Frida Fougberg, 3 & 2.

Ohio's win over Akron slots them a 1-2 record in the tournament.

The Bobcats now embark on a month-long break, returning to action on March 7 for the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational in Rio Verde, Ariz.
