RIO VERDE, Ariz. - The Ohio University women's golf team is in 13th place at the Rio Verde Invitational after carding a 314 (+30) combined score in round one on Friday (March 7) at the Rio Verde Country Club's Quail Run course.
Montana sits atop the pack with a 298 (+14) combined score. Wichita State trails narrowly with a 299 (+15) while Eastern Michigan holds third with a 301 (+17).
Individually, Northern Illinois' Sydney Brickley paced the field with a tournament-best 71 (E) day-one total.
Senior Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio) tallied three birdies en route to a 77 (+6) score, slotting her in a tie for 28th. Helmsdoerfer has now carded below an 80 in eight of her nine rounds this season.
Senior Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) compiled a 79 (+8) first-round score, placing her in a tie for 57th. Sophomore Angela Codian (Massillon, Ohio) and freshman Hailey Hrynewich (Muskegon, Mich.) also tallied scores of 79 (+8), respectively.
Junior Julie Lechner (Powell, Ohio) rounded out the Green and White with an 85 (+14). Alternate sophomore Lauren McKinzie (Medina, Ohio) fired a 78 (+7) to net her a share of 40th place.
Ohio's 13th standing following one round of play at the Rio Verde Invitational marks their best standing after the tournament's first round since 2006.
The Bobcats will begin second round play at 10 a.m. ET on Saturday (March 8). The third and final round will begin Sunday (March 9).
